One of Ted Ohlsen’s carvings recently found a new home in Port Moody with this amazing young girl who radiates with love.
When people first encounter Ted’s work, they are surprised to learn that Ted is blind.
Hailing from Germany, Ted Ohlsen immigrated to Canada in 1956 with a dream to become an outfitter in Northern Saskatchewan. In 1960, while out hunting, he was accidentally shot and lost his eyesight.
Even with the numerous challenges in front of him, Ted fulfilled his dream with the completion of a lodge in the middle of nowhere in Northern Saskatchewan.
Ted teaches us that no matter what you do in life, there’s always some other hurdles you have to overcome.
Ted’s carvings also remind us to contemplate the power of nature. Like Ted, you start to realize, who paid for the sun to shine this morning, who paid for the loon to call – nobody because you cannot buy that kind of stuff.
We need to see humanity as one vast plant, needing for its highest fulfillments only love and the natural blessings of the great outdoors.
