TED THE CARVER TEACHES US ALL THAT THE WORLD IS INTERCONNECTED

Ted Ohlsen, a blind carver from Saskatchewan teaches us that we must think more seriously on the oneness of humanity. Ted carves these amazing chains in the picture from one piece of wood.

Ted frequently returns to the theme that the world needs a greater sense of unity between countries and peoples. The world is so interconnected that a nation can no longer excuse themselves from global responsibility by saying that problems outside their borders do not affect them. It is simple, we need a sense of group responsibility, and Ted looks to nature as proof of this Truth.

One can quickly realize that a child’s education focuses too much on national interests and materialistic concerns. Students should be taught about truly important values, like compassion and respect, because it will lead to better understanding between peoples and greater tolerance of atheists and agnostics by believers in future generations.

Non-believers are still brothers and sisters no matter their view on religion or the nature of reality.

Whether we achieve it or not, it’s really worthwhile to make the attempt, is also part of Ted's deeper teachings.

Pictured here with one of Ted's creations is Pamela and Katie, friends of The Emily Dahl Foundation.

Ted Ohlsen, a Flin Flon Manitoba resident, who pioneered diamond willow carvings in the early 1970s. Challenged by the loss of his eyesight due to a hunting accident in 1960, Ohlsen has found diamond willow carving to be a relaxing way of expressing his love for the great Canadian outdoors.
